Catherine McKay Yancy, LPC-MHSP

Catherine has a warm, calm demeanor and her positive outlook on life can be contagious to both clients and colleagues. She is a realist and keeps clients on their toes while making it a priority to be one of their biggest supporters. Her graceful manner hides the fact that she is a powerhouse of productivity and perseverance. She believes that creating a strong therapeutic relationship and a safe environment in therapy helps clients to open up so they can break through emotional barriers. She also believes that everyone could benefit from counseling, no matter what they may or may not be going through.

Catherine works with both adolescents and adults. She enjoys helping clients discover their unique purpose in life and build their own “life worth living” goals. She counsels using a nonjudgmental, holistic, compassionate, customized approach for each client. At PSYCHē, Catherine conducts individual therapy and leads DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and MBT (Mentalization Based Treatment) groups. She enjoys using a combination of DBT, MBT, and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) in her counseling sessions to help clients achieve the specific results that they are seeking.

Dr. Vaughn and Sarah hired Catherine as a therapist and also to be a part of the PSYCHe administrative team after seeing her work in a residential treatment facility where they served as consultants to transform it into a DBT program for Substance Use Disorders (DBT-SUD) in 2016. There, Catherine was working specifically with women diagnosed with multiple disorders, substance abuse, and trauma--it was clear that she was "a cut above," and that she belonged at Psychē permanently.

In her spare time, Catherine enjoys working out (most recently, she joined a Crossfit gym), dancing and singing to live music, trying out new places in Nashville, and spending time with her fiance. On the weekends, she can be found cheering at Nashville Predators’ hockey games and travelling to visit friends and family.
